Safety Specialist

Summary
Assist EHS Manager in promoting a company-wide safety culture and OSHA-compliant workforce through communication, training, and enforcement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Train new employees on Company Safety Handbook, which includes all company safety policies and procedures (Safety Orientation).
- Train outside service personnel in the OSHA 10- or 30-hour construction industry courses (necessary topics include Hazcom, Fall Protection, Electrical Safety/LOTO, Scaffolds, PPE, Hand & Power Tools,
Confined Space, Struck-By/Caught-In Hazards, Stairways & Ladders, Material Handling, Powered Industrial Trucks, Aerial Work Platforms, and Respiratory Protection). - Perform safety audits of company facilities as well as customer jobsites.
- Assist in environmental compliance (environmental waste pick-up, container labeling, SDS organization).
- Interact with employees to promote company safety culture.
- Participate in Company Safety Committee.
- Take inventory of safety equipment and order as needed.
- Lead weekly Safety Meetings and Toolbox Talks on trending issues and safety improvements.
- Track company safety performance and address gaps in compliance.
- Accompany injured employees to urgent care facility.
- Investigate and record “Near-Misses” and incidents resulting in injury or property damage.
- Share safety statistics and incident investigation findings company-wide.
- Produce customer-required safety plans (e.g., Crane Lift Plans, Job Hazard Analyses, etc.).
- Organize annual hearing tests.
- Participate in job meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health & Safety (Management/Sciences/Engineering).
- Knowledge of OSHA 1910 and 1926 Standards.
- Mobility and flexibility in traveling to customer locations within a (5) state radius if necessary.
- Ability to overcome stressful situations and identify / solve problems.
- Strong management, communication skills, and professional etiquette.
- Strong in public speaking.
- Ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options to implement solutions.
- OSHA 500 Certification desired.
