Senior Automation Specialist

Summary

The Senior Automation Specialist is responsible for the commissioning and programming of turnkey automation systems that meet internal and customer quality and performance requirements. The Senior Automation Specialist will also collaborate with the Automation Design Team in the debug and optimization of automation systems on the shop floor and must have a good working knowledge of the technologies employed in the custom automation industry.

The Senior Automation Specialist is a full-time, salaried position that reports to the VP of Automation & Robotics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Commissioning and programming of custom automated machinery and robotic systems.
  • Travel to customer sites to perform Commissioning, Start-up, and/or Service calls to meet business needs.
  • Complete Readiness & Post Start-up activities and documentation per internal and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with other Automation Specialists and Designers in the development of new automation system concepts.
  • Define and deliver Automation Specialist Skills Matrix Needs for the business.
  • Technical Readiness System Ownership Responsibilities including:
    • Readiness requirements defined, standards and protocols developed and successfully executed for the following project phases:
      • Pre-FAT
      • FAT
      • Commissioning
      • SAT

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Automation & Robotics Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering or minimum of 5 years’ experience working with automated control systems is preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot automated systems including but not limited to electrical controls, mechanical components, pneumatics, motion control, robotics, and machine vision.
  • Proficient knowledge of PLC and HMI programs (Allen Bradley and Siemens preferred).
  • Proficient knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives (Allen Bradley, Siemens, and ABB preferred).
  • Proficient knowledge of robotic programming software not limited to palletizing, pick and place, welding, and vision tracking systems (FANUC and ABB preferred).
  • Proficient knowledge of industrial vision systems and programming software (e.g., Cognex and Keyence).
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD software and electrical design.
  • Collaboration in a small team environment with a high level of individual autonomy.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Able to take directions, stay on tasks, and complete them on time with minimal supervision.
  • Able to work well with others.
  • Understand and adhere to all company policies.
  • Display good writing, email, and phone skills and ethics.
  • Show respect to customers, colleagues, vendors, and any individuals doing business with DenTech.

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Willingness to work in a variety of environments, not limited to recycling, automotive, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and food processing.
  • Be physically capable of being on a customer’s site for purposes of electrical controls systems and automation.
  • The ability to drive a company car is required for this position as traveling in and out of state, with some overnight stays, is expected in some projects.
