Project showcase: Dust collection system for a glass recycling facility

Challenge

A recycling facility needed a dust collection system for their glass crushing room. DenTech provided a turnkey solution to meet the customer’s needs for a safer work environment.

Solution

DenTech installed a Donaldson Downflo® Evolution (DFE) dust collector. The DFE is a best-in-class cartridge dust collector with a smaller footprint and up to 40% fewer filters compared to a typical cartridge collector. These innovations offer several benefits, including:

  • Lower initial purchase price
  • Reduced filter replacement costs
  • Opened up manufacturing floor space
  • Reduced maintenance time
  • Reduced overall cost of operation

DenTech designed and fabricated the dust collector’s front and rear platform from structural steel. The platform consisted of bar grating, an access ladder, and OSHA-approved handrail and toe plate.

To control the system, DenTech designed, wired, and installed an AyrDyne electrical control panel listed to UL 698A. The system includes an EcoMAXX isolation valve to protect employees and the facility from damaging effects in the event of an explosion.

DenTech fabricated and installed dust collection hoods, enclosures, supports, hangers, dirty air ductwork, and clean air ductwork. DenTech also installed copper process piping supplied by the customer.

After all the components of the system were installed, two technicians from DenTech worked onsite to perform system start-up and balancing. They also provided onsite training to the customer’s operators.

Results

With the dust collection system in place, the recycling center can continue to recycle glass for their community while keeping employees safe.
